Fashion Week…and Some Sense of Normal is Back

The world of fashion never stops…not even a world pandemic can stop it.  While the last two years have been difficult, different…as we know, fashion is never dull.   After two consecutive seasons of being nearly all virtual, New York Fashion Week is back. This year’s event officially kicks off on Wednesday, though a few names, like Christian Siriano and Harlem’s Fashion Row, will show on Tuesday as part of the CFDA’s American Collections Calendar initiative. Unlike in years past, NYFW will conclude on Sept. 13 with a pared-down version of the Met Gala, rescheduled from its original May date due to the pandemic.

Not to be outdone, Fashion week in Paris is coming soon too…and so is some sense of “normal” activity.

Ninety-two brands plan to stage runway shows, presentations or digital collection reveals during Paris women’s ready-to-wear week from Sept. 27 to Oct. 5, the event’s organizing body Fédération de la Haute Couture et de la Mode said last week.

In total, the week will include 37 physical runway shows and 32 physical presentations, with the remaining events either undecided or slated to take place online-only.

I would not say everything is as it was before the pandemic and there were unfortunately many organizations, brands and retailers who have fallen. This is, however, a great sign that we are moving forward.  And to quote from The Devil Wears Prada, “All right, everyone. Gird your lions!” because we are ready to move on.
